Біблійний ґлокалізм як інтертекстуальність прози Йозефа Рота

Abstract

This paper investigates the intertextual features in works of classic of the Austrian literature Joseph Roth. It explains the place of the Bible and biblical motifs in his prose. It is alleged that along with biblical themes J. Roth extensively used mythological and biblical (Old and New Testament) characters (Job, Joseph, Leviathan, Antichrist), characters, situations, psychological states, as well as allusions to biblical texts and citations (Books of Genesis, Job, Isaiah, Psalms, Revelation). It is stated that the novel The Job by its existence confirms the theory of biblical glockalism. Structure of novel contains allusions that refer to the biblical Book of Job and The Legend of Joseph. Eschatological perspective of the novel The Job logically and aesthetically continuing series of journalistic works J. Roth’s Antichrist, which is characterized by an appeal to biblical symbolism and the use of religious rhetoric in the fight against Nazism. It is noted that with this parabola author portrays the image of Nazi Germany. It’s established that intertextual guides in the works of J. Roth got a special artistic blend of sacred and profane in idiostyle art space. Intertextual approach in this case makes it possible to create author’s view of the world, and show the uniqueness of Jewish culture, mentality, Jewish religious and mythological dominant.
